Trainings for attorneys on Wednesday, May 28, 2025
We’ll cover relief from abuse orders and housing habitability and retaliation. Both sessions will be offered via Microsoft Teams, or join us in person at our office in Burlington! Register here.
9 - 10:30 a.m.: Relief from Abuse Orders
Join Laura Bierley from Vermont Legal Aid and Cielo Mendoza from LSV to learn how you can help victims of crime receive court-approved protection orders to keep them safe. We will provide an in-depth overview of the relevant law, tools for how to fill out and file relief from abuse orders, and tips for representing clients at these hearings. Help us make a difference in someone’s life and give them the safety and security they need.
10:45 a.m. - 12 p.m.: Housing Habitability and Retaliation
Join LSV attorneys Kyle Clauss and Bradley Showman for an overview of housing habitability law, rental safety codes, and protections tenants have from retaliation for raising these concerns to their landlords. Attorneys will learn about resources tenants have to ensure their housing is safe and habitable. Attorneys will also learn how to avoid common problems and legal hurdles tenants face when asserting these rights and how to set tenants up for success when dealing with these complex situations.
