How it works

When you are a volunteer attorney, we will give a client your name and phone number only after you have talked to Legal Services Vermont staff and agree to accept the referral. All clients referred through our pro bono program are low-income individuals with very limited resources. Clients are interviewed to determine what legal issues need to be addressed.

We will reimburse you for any out-of-pocket expenses from the case such as copying costs, filing fees and mileage. In some cases, other types of expenses can be reimbursed, however you must get pre-approval from the project. We also carry malpractice insurance that can cover you or supplement insurance you already have.
