Volunteer Spotlight: Samantha Lednicky

Samantha Lednicky was born and raised in Shelburne and graduated from the University of Vermont in 2011. She went on to Northeastern University School of Law, graduating in 2015. At Catamount Law she represents clients in family law matters, criminal defendants, and has a small civil litigation practice. Samantha received the Vermont Bar Association Pro Bono Award for 2020. She lives in Hinesburg with her husband and two young children.

Samantha believes she has a duty to help litigants who do not have equal access to our legal system. After volunteering in LSV’s Rent Escrow Clinic her first year practicing, she developed a passion for representing low-income tenants, who are often unrepresented and who face a huge risk—losing their home—that is so vital to their success in every other aspect of life.

In one of her recent pro bono cases, Samantha represented a Vermonter facing eviction at trial and won a judgement in her client’s favor. The client was repaid all escrowed rent and was able to retain her housing voucher. This was a critically important outcome for the client that would not have been achieved without Samantha’s help.
